About this project
bitcoinpuzzle.online is an independent, educational site about the 2015 Bitcoin puzzle transaction and the cryptography behind it.
What it is
A clear reference for each unsolved puzzle — ranges, addresses, prizes — paired with a from-scratch secp256k1 key scanner compiled to WebAssembly that runs entirely in your browser. It exists to make elliptic-curve key search tangible: you can watch real keys being checked, see the throughput, and understand why the ranges matter.
Privacy
The scanner is fully client-side. Candidate keys are generated, checked, and discarded in your own browser across Web Workers. Nothing about your search — not keys, not the target, not results — is ever sent to any server. If the scanner ever did find a matching key, it would be shown only to you.
Safety and honesty
Searching these keys is legal: the funds were placed as a public challenge by their owner. But two honest cautions. First, the odds: brute-forcing puzzle #71 on personal hardware is astronomically unlikely to succeed. Second, the claim: solvers of recent puzzles had winning transactions intercepted and replaced by bots watching the public mempool, so even a find is not automatically a payout. Nothing here is financial advice.
Not affiliated
This site is not affiliated with the puzzle's creator. Puzzle status and balances are checked periodically (last 2026-06-23); for live, authoritative data see the privatekeys.pw tracker.
